Building Blocks of the Mind
The mind, or as we like to call it, the perspectome, builds itself. Between birth and about six years of age, a perspectome forms itself from perception, percepts (in the Consciousness Studies literature, this is often called “qualia” but I prefer the term percepts because qualia has an implicit dualism from quanta). In the beginning, all you have is percepts, and they are like an ocean, and the perspectome is one with that ocean. In fact, in a metaphysical sense, perhaps you could say you are one with the ocean of consciousness until you start to form concepts, the first unit above percept, a collection of percepts comes assembles to form a concept. Gradually the attention sphere of the perspectome collects concepts…
